(7696) Love is a main belt asteroid discovered on May 10, 1988 by the German astronomer Werner Landgraf from the La Silla Observatory ( IAU code 809) of the European Southern Observatory (ESO) in Chile .

The asteroid was named after the German astronomer Bodo Liebe , who taught astronomy at the University of Siegen and set up an observatory.
