(9377) Metz is an asteroid of the main belt that was discovered on August 15, 1993 by the Belgian astronomer Eric Walter Elst at the Observatoire de Calern ( IAU code 010) north of Grasse .
The asteroid was named after the French city of Metz , the capital of the Moselle department and capital of the Lorraine region .
