(9618) John Cleese is an asteroid of the main belt , which on 17 March 1993 as part of the Uppsala-ESO Survey of Asteroids and Comets on La Silla Observatory ( IAU code 809) of the European Southern Observatory in Chile was discovered.
The asteroid was named on March 20, 2000 after the British comedian , actor , screenwriter and voice actor John Cleese (* 1939), who became famous as a member of the British comedian group Monty Python and was successful with the television series Fawlty Towers and the film A Fish Called Wanda was.
