(964) Subamara is an asteroid of the main belt that was discovered on October 27, 1921 by the Austrian astronomer Johann Palisa in Vienna .

The name of the asteroid is derived from the Latin word for very bitter - an allusion to the observation conditions of the Vienna observatory.
