(9818) Eurymachos is an asteroid belonging to the group of Jupiter Trojans . This describes asteroids that move around the sun on the Lagrange points on Jupiter's orbit .
(9818) Eurymachos was discovered on September 24, 1960 by the Dutch astronomers Cornelis Johannes van Houten , Ingrid van Houten-Groeneveld and Tom Gehrels at the Palomar Observatory ( IAU code 675). It is assigned to the Lagrangian point L 4 .
The asteroid is named after the mythological Greek hero Eurymachos .
He fought on the side of the Greeks in the Trojan War and was one of the warriors in the Trojan Horse .
