action

Newspaper reporter Wally Jones has no knack for money. He once wanted to buy an engagement ring for his girlfriend Dorothy Summers, but has not paid an installment for the ring for a year and can now not give it to Dorothy as planned, especially since jeweler Mr. Vanderbrocken also refuses to lend the ring to Wally. Wally's bad luck continues: his boss Charlie fires him for neglecting his job, and Wally then gambled away his last 10 dollars in a casino. However, it suits the casino owner Jim Bradley at just the right time, as he and his friend Sonny Rycross disagree over the question of whether a person could continuously spend $ 1,000 per minute. Wally becomes the test subject and is said to have spent $ 1,000 per minute continuously for twelve hours, so after 12 hours he will have spent all of $ 720,000. If he does it, he'll get $ 10,000.

Wally begins his shopping spree with minder Benny Dolan by his side. He buys jewelry, a fur, a racehorse, a car, later a yacht, a pedigree dog and expensive wines. His tour soon arouses suspicion from salespeople, who Wally owes much, and the police, who believe he is a bank robber. Dorothy is also disappointed because she believes that Wally has a new girlfriend. Wally and Benny are hospitalized after a car accident, so time is running out to spend all the money. With the remaining $ 25,000, Wally would like the hospital to buy a much-needed radium capsule, but it costs $ 50,000. While Jim already thinks he has won the bet, Wally learns that the racehorse he just bought won a race and earned him $ 25,000 in prize money. He can now buy the capsule and has spent all of the money in the required time frame. Wally receives the $ 10,000 in profit that Dorothy is supposed to keep for him. She has now learned the background with a bet and is reconciled with Wally.
