The 1-naphthylacetic acid is one having a naphthyl group substituted acetic acid , thus a carboxylic acid and a potential of two positional isomers of the Naphthylessigsäuren. Like many other aromatically substituted acetic acids, it shows an auxin-analogous effect in plants. Therefore it is used as a synthetic phytohormone .

use

1-Naphthylacetic acid has the same effect as the natural auxin indole-3-acetic acid (IES), to which there is a structural relationship. She will u. a. Used in the vegetative propagation of plants, where it is the main component of various rooting hormones ("root fix") for the propagation of cuttings .

In fruit growing, NAA can be used in high concentrations (1000 ppm) to control root saplings and water shoots . NAA is used in low concentrations (10–20 ppm) for chemical thinning when used during flowering up to 14 days later or against premature fruit fall 2–4 weeks before harvest.

Admission status

In Germany, Austria and Switzerland, plant protection products containing 1-naphthylacetic acid are permitted.
