18th Dye was a German - Danish noise rock - band .

history

The band was founded in the early 1990s by Sebastian Büttrich (DE), Piet Bendtsen (DK) and Heike Rädeker (DK / DE) in Berlin . After a few gigs the trio of was Yo La Tengo discovered and to the American Independent - label Matador Records taught. After all, they should gain a larger following in the US and UK than in their homeland.

The debut album Done was released in 1992. It was followed by a six-track EP called Crayon , which was produced by Iain Burgess . After a move to Cloudland Records , the album Tribute To A Bus was released in 1995 . As a producer acted Steve Albini , whose previous albums by The Breeders , PJ Harvey , Big Black , Pixies and Nirvana produced. The latter are important influences alongside Sonic Youth and Velvet Underground . Abrupt and thoughtful-melodic passages follow one another - often surprisingly. 18th Dye played in the opening act for Yo La Tengo, Stereolab and Notwist . In 1993 the band played at the Danish Roskilde Festival . In 1994, 1995 and 1999 she invited John Peel to his famous show Peel Sessions . After farewell appearances in Berlin, London and Copenhagen in 1999, they announced their dissolution.

Sebastian Büttrich and Piet Bendtsen founded the bands Kikkert and Test . The bassist Heike Rädeker played for Evonike and Wuhling . The solo projects, however, were short-lived and the band members temporarily withdrew from the music business.

In summer 2005 they got together again. During their shows in Sweden , Denmark and Germany, 18th Dye introduced a number of new titles. At further appearances in the spring of 2006 a new publication was promised. At the end of March 2008, the album Amorine Queen was released , whose archaic, out of date style was praised by the critics given the long break. On January 29th, 2010 they announced the separation on the grounds "that they are no longer able to compose, create and act together as a band".
