1996 PW is an asteroid from the group of Damocloids that was discovered on August 9, 1996 as part of the Near Earth Asteroid Tracking project .
The orbit of the asteroid is strongly elliptical with an eccentricity of 0.991, and is reminiscent of that of a comet . The perihelion is 2.549 AU in the asteroid belt, the aphelion is 552.121 AU far beyond the orbit of Neptune. The asteroid may have come from the Oort cloud . It takes the asteroid almost 4619 years to orbit the sun. The orbit incline is about 29.8 degrees.
