occupation

45 minutes to Ramallah is a German film by the German- Iranian film director Ali Samadi Ahadi . The film started in Germany on December 5, 2013. The comedy tells the story of the two dissimilar brothers Rafik and Jamal, who have to bring their late father from Jerusalem to Ramallah for the funeral, with a lot of black humor. It's only 25 km away, but they have to go from Israel to Palestine and pretty much everything goes wrong that can go wrong when you're walking with a corpse.

action

Rafik, a Palestinian who grew up in East Jerusalem , lives in Germany and works in an Arab restaurant. He has little desire to travel to Israel for his brother Jamal's wedding . To do his mother a favor and because he has just lost his job, he accepts the invitation anyway. When old quarrels with his quick-tempered father break out again at the wedding, he dies. The father's last wish was to be buried in his birthplace near Ramallah , which is in the Palestinian Territories . Grudgingly, the two dissimilar and quarreling brothers take on the daring mission of smuggling the father's corpse across the border in their own car. The journey itself only takes 45 minutes, but the supposed short trip turns into a hair-raising odyssey.

After having passed the first checkpoint without any problems, they meet the beautiful Olga at a gas station, who leads them to a restaurant by pretending to be working. As they leave the restaurant, they discover that Olga, who belongs to a gang of Russian car dealers, has stolen her car. After a night of interrogation and mistreatment in the Israeli prison because, as Arabs, they were mistaken for bomb bombers, they went to a Russian to get illegal replacement for their passports, which were also stolen. There they meet Olga again, who has already taken her car to Ramallah. Once there, they fall into the hands of the “holy freedom fighters of Islam”. After further interrogation and abuse, they are said to be shot as collaborators. At the last second they are rescued, only to end up immediately in the clutches of an even more radical terrorist group, where their car with the father's corpse is also found. Chosen to be suicide bombers through a misunderstanding, Rafik and Jamal escape on their way to their mission. Their car is destroyed, but they reach the cemetery in Ramallaha with the body of their father. So after three days their bizarre journey ends, the family is united, the father finds his final resting place, the brothers have become real friends and Rafik and Olga become a couple.
