In the interview she said: "I would appreciate it if someone kills Fidel Castro or any other leader who oppresses the people." After the producers published this statement on the film's website in autumn 2006, several media picked up the quote, as it raised the question of whether the influential MP supported murder as a foreign policy tool. Ros-Lehtinen was running for chairmanship of the Congress Committee on Foreign Policy, which she took over in early 2007. She initially reacted to the media reports by claiming that the filmmakers had taken their statements out of context and falsified them. After the producers attacked in this way published a complete copy of the 45-minute interview, made the original recordings available to interested media representatives and thus refuted the Republican politician's portrayal , Ros-Lehtinen withdrew her allegation of manipulation and admitted the controversial statement.
