89.0 RTL is a commercial radio broadcaster based in Halle (Saale) , which belongs to the RTL Group . It is produced in the same broadcasting house as Radio Brocken and, unlike its sister program, aims to appeal to a younger target group. A CHR format is used for this. The program went on air in its current form on August 24, 2003. Tina Wilhelm has been the program director since May 2015.

history

The broadcast on the VHF frequency 89.0 MHz from the Brocken (Harz) broadcasting location is considered to be one of the technically broadest in Germany and was already used by Radio DDR 1 and Radio Aktuell during the GDR era . Programs broadcast on it could and can be received not only in Saxony-Anhalt, but also in large parts of Lower Saxony, Thuringia and Brandenburg and, if the weather is good, in Bremen and Hamburg, in smaller parts of North Rhine-Westphalia and Hesse. After the reunification and in the course of the approval of private radio programs in Saxony-Anhalt, the frequency went in the 1990s together with several smaller filling frequencies to the organizer, then called AH Antenne Hörfunk-Sender GmbH & Co.KG , which it initially called for years produced program Radio Brocken for Saxony-Anhalt broadcast.

After the state media authorities wanted to promote the DAB transmission standard in the 2000s, the organizer had the opportunity to start a second program on a DAB channel with Project 89.0 digital in the same broadcasting house. Since DAB was practically non-widespread at that time, it was also permitted to broadcast on the FM frequency 89.0 MHz. Radio Brocken lost its most important frequency as a result, but the filling frequencies were and are still largely sufficient to supply the licensed broadcasting area of Saxony-Anhalt.

Project 89.0 digital broadcast a progressive rock format that quickly built up a loyal audience, but remained commercially unsuccessful. After the RTL Group joined the organizer AH Antenne Hörfunk-Sender GmbH & Co.KG (renamed in 2011: Funkhaus Halle GmbH & Co.KG ) as the most important investor, a change of strategy was decided and the previous Project 89.0 digital was launched on 24. Renamed to 89.0 RTL in August 2003 . At the same time, the music format was changed, giving the impression of a completely new radio program.

In contrast to the sister program Radio Brocken, which is still clearly focused on Saxony-Anhalt to this day, 89.0 RTL addresses a larger distribution area that is not clearly defined, so that sometimes “RTL sector” or the like. the talk was. Cities such as Wolfsburg , Hanover , Braunschweig , Göttingen , Kassel , Erfurt and Bad Hersfeld are also taken into account in the traffic and speed camera reports, although formally there is only a broadcasting license for Saxony-Anhalt.

The program is still broadcast via DAB and via live stream on the Internet, with DAB + broadcasting on channel 11C in Saxony-Anhalt .

criticism

The blog “Fair-Radio.net” reported in February 2014 that 89.0 RTL only broadcast recorded news on several days in February during “radio prime time” between 6 and 9 am. This could be recognized by the fact that the recordings of the news every hour made by Fair Radio were "identical down to the smallest note". The content of the “Aktuell” programs was also the same as the previous evening. The program did not mention this, instead, according to “Fair Radio”, it was suggested in the program that it was really current news.

The blog post was also picked up in online industry services.
