List of radio stations

92.9 RTL was a private Austrian radio station that broadcast from April 1, 1998 to August 2000. The studios were in Vienna , 15th district, Storchengasse. The station started with the slogan “92.9 RTL - Rock and Pop nonstop” and the first song to be played was “Jump” by Van Halen . At the start of the broadcast, the station was 26% owned by CLT-UFA (now RTL Group ) and formed the 22nd station in its radio family. The participation was limited by the Broadcasting Act to 26%, but RTL had exercised the entrepreneurial management. Nine other shareholders in Vienna's economy shared the remaining 74%. The aim of the station was a target group of up to 39 year olds and it should be one of the top 3 Viennese radio stations within the next two years.

In addition to the technical reach of 2.5 million listeners in Vienna and the surrounding area through terrestrial broadcasting, the station was also fed into the cable network of Telekabel (now UPC Austria ) in October 1998 .

development

When the first radio test showed sobering results, the program was fundamentally changed after less than six months on-air. On September 14, 1998, the station as “92.9 RTL - Power Music Radio” as a “real” rock station ( Metallica and Led Zeppelin ) achieved a daily reach of 4.8% in the advertising-relevant target group of 14 to 49 year olds and one Market share of 3%.

In November 1999, program director Scott Lockwood left the station. His successor was the previous head of music, Tim Hind, who had previously worked at Radio CD International . In mid-May 2000, managing director Erich Schönberg also left the station and was replaced by DI Ulrich Köring as managing program director. Under his leadership, major personnel changes were made and the format was also called into question. According to the press release, “the extensive market study was intended to capture all potential listeners in Vienna for the first time in order to position a long-term successful product in the market”. Allegedly, this market study was the basis of the new format change in early August 2000 with the reorientation as 92.9 HitFM. The change went hand in hand with personnel changes: Sandra König and Christoph Oberreiter came from Energy Wien , Doris Golpashin , Stefan Sailer and Michael Grohmann from Radio 88.6 and Robert Palfrader became presenters of the station with the new format. Werner Reichel (formerly at Radio Energy and Vienna correspondent for BLR / Radiodienst) became the news chief, while Christian Böck was the head of entertainment.

In September 2000 RTL Group sold its 26% stake to the Austrian private radio service company (PRS). At this point in time, the station had a 6 percent audience share.

Radio Arabella has been broadcasting on this frequency since December 14, 2001 .
