The A61 road ( English for road A61 ) is a major road in England , which is largely designated as a primary route and leads in a north-south direction from the A19 road near Thirsk to the M1 motorway and on via Sheffield to Alfreton . Another short section bypasses Derby in the east.
course
The road begins in Thirsk on the extension of the A170 coming from Scarborough near the A19 road bypass . It leads as a two-lane primary road to Ripon and on the way crosses the A1 (M) motorway at its junction 50. From there it continues south via Harrogate , where the A59 road is crossed, and Harewood to Leeds , and, now, no more as the primary route, parallel to the M1 motorway via Wakefield and Barnsley to Hoyland , where it meets the M1. In its further course it is again a primary route and leads through Sheffield to Chesterfield . In Alfreton it meets the four-lane and largely level crossing-free A38 road , which continues to Derby (the original route is a B road). The A61 separates from the A38 north of Derby and leads east of the center past the A52 road .
