Micro batteries

Micro , micro cell , AAA , AAA cell or IEC size R03 (not to be confused with size R3 with ⌀ 13.5 mm × 25.0 mm) are common names for a standardized, widespread size of batteries . They were invented by Samuel Ruben and Philip Rogers Mallory and introduced in 1964 under the Duracell brand . However, the company EVEREADY writes on its website that it invented this type of battery back in 1911.

These are cylindrical round cells with a diameter of 9.5 to 10.5 mm and a height of 43.3 to 44.5 mm ( only the two maximum values are mentioned in the IEC 60086-1 standard ). This results in a volume of about 3.5 to 3.8 cm³. Despite the identical structure, they should not be confused with the larger Mignon or AA cells. Microcells are produced with different electrochemical systems, which can differ significantly in nominal voltage , capacity , load capacity and structure. Depending on the system, other, often manufacturer-specific terms are used for non-rechargeable and rechargeable micro cells.

Micro cells are mainly used in small, often portable, electrical and electronic devices. Examples are cordless telephones , walkie-talkies , pagers , digital cameras , PDAs , MP3 players , computer mice , toys , flashlights , laser pointers , calculators , clocks and remote controls .
