The AEG B (factory designation Z.3) from 1913 and the AEG BI from 1914 were German multi-purpose aircraft belonging to the AEG, aircraft construction department in Hennigsdorf near Berlin.
history
The aircraft with the civil work designation AEG Z6 was assigned to the B-aircraft by the inspection of the air force with the military designation AEG BI and served the German air force in 1914 and at the beginning of the First World War as a two-seat unarmed training and reconnaissance aircraft .
The BI was replaced by the AEG B.II (Z9) and later the AEG B.III (Z10) at the end of 1914 , and from then on it was used as a training aircraft.
construction
The machines were designed as three-tier double - deckers with an in- line engine . The structure consisted mainly of welded tubular steel, and the fabric-covered wings also consisted of two tubular steel spars with wooden frames in between.
To protect against overturning or headstand (" Fliegerdenkmal ") in the event of a failed landing, a nose wheel activated via the tail spur was located at the level of the engine. With regard to the placement of the engine, the developers had shown little skill, because it protruded far beyond the fuselage and was therefore not very aerodynamic, and the two large coolers - one on each side of the fuselage - also restricted the aerodynamics.
