Arashi ( jap. , dt. Storm ) are a Japanese boy band that consists of five members and arose from the talent factory of Johnny & Associates ( Johnny's Jimusho ).

After the members, as is usual at Johnny's, spent some time with the organization as Johnny's Juniors and thus gained fame, they made their debut on September 16, 1999 in Honolulu , Hawaii . On October 31 of the same year, they released their first maxi-single entitled A.RA.SHI (German Sturm ) on the Pony Canon label , with which they stayed until 2001. Since 2002, her publications have been produced and distributed by J Storm . Many of her singles are used as theme songs for various dorama. In November 2006, Arashi were the first Johnny & Associates band to perform in South Korea.

All members have already gained a lot of experience in the film industry. So they played in numerous drama and appeared in many different commercials.

Their music moves mainly in the regions of J-Pop , but the hip-hop style also plays a role and is brought in by Sakurai Sho.

biography

Since Arashi already existed as a group some time before their debut as Johnny's Juniors , they were celebrated by more than 80,000 fans at their debut performance. Their first single A.RA.SHI became a hit.

More singles and albums followed. They also released two films, Pika ★ nchi: Life is Hard dakedo Happy and Pika ★★ nchi Double: Life is Hard dakara Happy , in which they starred.

Due to the large crowd of Korean fans at Arashi's press conference in Korea as part of their Jet Storm Tour promoting their new album Arashic , Johnny's decided that Arashi should be the first of their bands to give concerts in South Korea. The four concerts were sold out within a very short time; according to press reports, the 150,000 tickets for the first concert were taken within an hour. Apart from these concerts, the group represented Japan at the Asia Song Festival 2006 , also held in South Korea.

successes

Arashi has released 11 albums and 27 singles so far (as of August 2009). The single Love so Sweet , released on February 21, 2007, became the title track of the successful dorama series Hana Yori Dango 2 and secured first place in the Oricon daily and weekly rankings. Her single from May 2nd of the same year also reached the highest chart position in the first week. Arashi's album Time also debuted from number one on the Oricon charts, selling 191,000 copies in its first week.

In April 2007, Arashi performed at their biggest concert to date. Arashi Around Asia took place in the Osaka Dome ( Kyocera Dome Osaka ) and the Tokyo Dome , with a total capacity of 100,000 seats.

In 2008 Arashi managed to reach both number 1 and number two in the Oricon annual charts, which no other artist had achieved since 1989.

In 2010, Arashi were elected "Face of Japan" by the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism, and Aiba Masaki, Matsumoto Jun and Sakurai Sho gave the greeting "We are waiting for you in Japan!" At the associated press conference. in Chinese, Korean and English respectively.

In April 2010, Arashi broke all sales records again with their DVD ARASHI Anniversary Tour 5 × 10 , with the DVD already selling 477,000 copies in the first week and reaching the top of the Oricon charts. Even in the second week, the DVD does not deviate from first place, which is a great success in view of the high release rate in Japan.
