ASTPAI is a four-piece punk / rock formation from Wiener Neustadt , Austria . In addition to former big names in the scene such as Rentokill , Red Lights Flash and Antimaniax, the band is one of the most internationally known and most active bands in the Austrian punk scene.

history

ASTPAI was founded in 2001 by Zock (vocals, guitar) and Wimair (drums, vocals). Shortly afterwards, Rene (bass, vocals) also joined, before finally in 2002 with Marco the composition that remained unchanged until 2011 was found.

With Feeling Safe in Programmed Channels they released their first work in 2005, accompanied by their first tours through Central and Western Europe. The successor Corruption Concealed (Under Deceptive Slogans) appeared a year later and helped the band to gain a foothold in North America when Jumpstart Records released it there in 2008. The regular tours through Europe (including Great Britain, Greece and Russia) were also followed by recurring trips to North America. 2010 saw the release of the third album Heart To Grow, the last one in which all four founding members were involved. In addition to the tried and tested label partner in North America, a reputable cooperation was found for Europe in Asscard Records , which continues to this day in this form.

After ASTPAI 2010 mainly relied on temporary musicians to cope with the large number of concerts, a new rhythm section was established in 2011 with Bernhard (bass, vocals) and Toni (drums, vocals). In 2012, the new constellation was heard for the first time on ASTPAI's fourth publication, Efforts and Means . In addition, an 18-minute short documentary about the band's career was presented on YouTube.

The band had their most active time in the years to come - ASTPAI played around 400 concerts between 2012 and 2014 alone. In 2014, the fifth long-playing record, Burden Calls , was released, with which the four musicians presented a concept album with both content and music.

In June 2018 ASTPAI released their 6th studio album True Capacity via Jumpstart Records (USA, Canada) and Shield Recordings (Europe). After Europe-wide release shows, the band announced the departure of drummer Toni at the end of the year. In 2019, in addition to a few festivals, the band also played a US and European tour with auxiliary drummer Thomas.

In September 2019 ASTPAI announced that after a few last concerts in Central Europe they would disband in 2020 - after 19 years of existence. Long-time band member Toni should return from his break for these last concerts.

ASTPAI toured internationally with bands such as Only Crime , RX Bandits , A Wilhelm Scream , The Flatliners , The Smith Street Band , Restorations , Smoke or Fire and Rentokill . The band is now one of the main bands at the annual "The Fest" in Gainesville , Florida - the "Mecca" of American punk rock - and at the "Punk Rock Holiday" in Tolmin , Slovenia. One of the biggest appearances is certainly the one on the main stage of the Groezrock Festival in Meerhout , Belgium, which was immortalized in the music video Careers . In its 19-year history, the band made over 900 gigs in over 25 countries - including a. USA, Canada, Mexico, Great Britain, Sweden, Belgium, Netherlands, Luxembourg, Ukraine, Lithuania, Poland, Russia, Romania, Spain, Greece; and remains one of the most internationally known Austrian punk bands to this day.

style

While the first two albums were more of the harder genre of hardcore punk , the band developed in a more melodic direction from Heart to Grow - but has not completely renounced punk to this day. ASTPAI's typical rocky, guitar-heavy sound is characteristic. The range of songs extends over the years from up-tempo punk to mid-tempo rock.
