The ASV Idar-Oberstein is a German sports club based in the Rhineland-Palatinate town of Idar-Oberstein in the district of Birkenfeld . It was created in 1971 from the merger of SpVgg 08 Oberstein and SC Eintracht Oberstein .

Sports Association 08 Oberstein
In 1919, the merged 1.FC Oberstein 08 , the FC Urania Oberstein , the Football Association Oberstein and Sports Club near 09 to the Sports Association 08 Oberstein . After the Second World War , the club played for a long time in the highest amateur class in Rhineland-Palatinate, first from 1947 to 1949 in the Landesliga Rheinland , then from 1949 to 1952 in the Landesliga Rheinhessen / Nahe and since 1952 in the 1st Amateur League Southwest . After the 1955/56 season , the club rose to the 2nd Amateur League Southwest. For the 1958/59 season , they were promoted to the 1st amateur league, in which SpVgg 08 Oberstein remained until the 1963/64 season .
Sports club Eintracht Oberstein
The SC Eintracht Oberstein was created in 1946 through the merger of FC Homerich in 1919 with the lawn sports club 09 Oberstein . The club won the Southwest Cup in 1953 and played in the 2nd Southwest Amateur League for many years.

Years of success in the 1970s
The ASV Idar-Oberstein rose to the 1975/76 season in the 1st Amateur League Southwest , which was then the third highest division. With 33:35 points, the class could be held above tenth place. In the same season , the team was also allowed to take part in the DFB Cup . In the first main round, SG 01 Hoechst was beaten 3-2 at home. After the 2nd main round it was over for the club. Here the team lost 4-0 at Westfalia Herne . The club's A junior team was also allowed to compete in the German championship this season as a representative of the Southwest Association. In the round of 16, ASV met 1. FC Köln and drew in two games. In the final penalty shootout, the team failed 6: 5 at the Cologne team.
After the amateur league season 1977/78 the league was redistributed and due to the 17th place within the league, the club had to relegate to the 2nd amateur league.
Current time
In the 2003/04 season the club played in the district league Nahe and finished 14th there with 25 points. With only 11 points, however, the team had to relegate to the district class West after the 2005/06 season . There the class could only just be held in the following season with 19 points and 15th place. However, the relegated SC Birkenfeld II only had 8 points. Nevertheless, the team played in the 2007/08 season in the district league Near West, from which they were able to rise again as champions with 67 points. Back in the district class, the team finished ninth with 39 points. After the 2009/10 season, however, the team ended up in 16th place with 20 points and had to relegate again. Back in the district league, the first season ended here with 32 points in 12th place. After the 2011/12 season, the team placed second with 66 points, which allowed them to participate in the promotion games to the district class. Against TuS Mörscheid II , however, they first lost 4-0 at home and then a 3-2 defeat away, which meant that the promotion was missed. The following season ended only in fifth place with 53 points. For the next season, the team competed in the B-Class Birkenfeld West and was able to claim second place there with 78 points. In the promotion games against TuS Becherbach , the team was able to win both games and thus move up to the A-class . The team should have been relegated from the A-Class immediately after the 2014/15 season with 29 points and 13th place, but did not do so. Also after the 2015/16 season, relegation would have been necessary after the season. Only after the 2016/17 season did the team really have to relegate with just 10 points over 16th place. Now back in the B-Class, he achieved second place with 79 points and once again qualified for participation in promotion games. Here, however, the team lost again in both games, this time to SpVgg Teufelsfels , so nothing came of the promotion. So the team still plays in the B-Class today.
