The 1st Amateur League Southwest was formed in 1952 by amalgamating the amateur leagues  RheinhessenWest Palatinate  and  Front Palatinate and existed until the 1977/78 season as the third highest league. After the introduction of the Oberliga Südwest in 1978 as the highest amateur league, the league was renamed "Verbandsliga Südwest" and was only fourth class from that point on.
