Aaran Lines (born December 21, 1976 in Lower Hutt ) is a former New Zealand football player and today's coach and official. Until 2004 he was also a national player for his country .

Player career

youth

As a teenager, Lines played at Halswell United. There he was discovered by a scout from Germany and transferred to Werder Bremen . At Werder Bremen Lines was active in the A youth team between 1993 and 1995.

Club career

For the 1995/1996 season, Lines made the leap to Werder Bremen's second team. In the summer of 1997 he moved to Kickers Emden , for which he played 40 times.

In 1998 Lines went to VfL Osnabrück . There he was used in 14 games and scored one goal. After one season he left VfL Osnabrück and returned to New Zealand in 1999 , where he signed a contract with the New Zealand Knights . At the New Zealand Knights Lines could not prevail and came in three seasons on only 30 appearances.

After three years in New Zealand, Lines moved back to Germany in early 2002. With the Dresdner SC he found a new club in the then third-class regional football league . After only six months he left Dresden again and moved to Ruch Chorzów in Poland , and a year later he moved to Arka Gdynia in Poland .

In the following years, Lines continued to change clubs several times: In 2004 he signed a contract with Borussia Freialdenhoven in the German Oberliga Niederrhein , but left the Oberliga club again after six months at the end of 2004. He moved to the United States for the Portland Timbers in the United Soccer League . With the Portland Timbers he acted as a regular player during the 2005 season and was used in 23 games. He scored a goal.

For the USL 2006 season, Lines moved within the USL to the Rochester Raging Rhinos , where he was active in the 2006 and 2007 seasons . In the Rhinos he was used a total of 43 times, he scored two goals.

In 2008 Lines moved to Australia for Richmond SC , where he finally ended his playing career that same year.

National team

Lines went through the various junior national teams of New Zealand. So he was used in the U-17 selection , U-20 selection and the U-23 selection .

In 1998 he was appointed to the New Zealand national football team for the first time . In 1998 and 2002 he was able to win the OFC Nations Cup with the New Zealand selection ; both times the finals were played against the selection of Australia . He also competed with the national team in the FIFA Confederations Cups in 1999 and 2003 .

He played a total of 31 games for his country between 1998 and 2004, scoring four goals.

Coaching career

2009 Lines took over the post of coach with the Buffalo Flash , a women's football - Franchise of Rochester in New York , which had just been newly established. The Buffalo Flash played in the USL W-League . In 2011 the franchise was renamed Western New York Flash . At the end of the 2012 season, the USL W-League was dissolved, and the Western New York Flash was dissolved in this context.

In 2013 the National Women's Soccer League was founded, where a franchise again takes part under the name Western New York Flash . Just like a large number of the players, Lines also followed as a trainer for this new franchise. After the end of the 2015 season, Lines resigned as trainer and general manager of Flash and became vice president of the franchise.
