Aaron Michael Gray (born December 7, 1984 in Tarzana , California ) is a retired American basketball player who was active for seven seasons in the National Basketball Association (NBA). Due to a heart disease, he had to end his active career early.

Player career

High school and college

Gray was a standout center at Emmaus High School in Emmaus , Pennsylvania before he was enlisted by the University of Pittsburgh . On the "Pitt" Gray was nominated for the Associated Press Third Team All-American .

NBA

Gray was selected 49th in the 2007 NBA draft by the Chicago Bulls and made his debut in the NBA on November 2, 2007 against the Philadelphia 76ers . His best performance so far he showed on April 16, 2008 in the game against the Toronto Raptors when he achieved career bests with 19 points and 22  rebounds in a playing time of 35 minutes.

On January 26, 2010, the Bulls announced that Gray would be transferred to the New Orleans Hornets . In return, they received Guard Devin Brown . Gray played with the Hornets until the end of his contract in the summer of 2011. For the 2011/12 season he moved to the Toronto Raptors .

November 2013, the center was transferred from the Raptors to the Sacramento Kings . By the end of his contract in the summer of 2014, Gray ran for the Kings. He then signed with the Detroit Pistons , but was released shortly before the start of the season.

Coaching career

After Gray retired due to a blood clot in his heart, he was hired by the Detroit Pistons as an assistant coach. He remained assistant coach of the Pistons for a total of three years, until 2018.
