Abe Aaron

Abe Aaron (real name Alvin Aaron, also Al Aaron and Albin Aaron ; born January 27, 1910 in Toronto , Ontario , Canada ; † January 31, 1970 ) was a Canadian jazz clarinet player and saxophonist.

Life

Aaron's father ran a theater band in Milwaukee , Wisconsin . He taught him to play the clarinet and soprano saxophone . After working together for a few years, Aaron began playing alto saxophone in Jack Teagarden's band . In 1943 he moved to Hollywood and played on the radio with Horace Heidt and his band. From 1945 to 1947 he played in Skinnay Ennis' band . Then he went back to Horace Heidt. With Les Brown and his Band of Renown he had his most successful period in the following decade. During this time they made tours to the Far East and Europe . A number of recordings were made with this band for Coral Records and Capitol Records . On Kapp Records he played bass clarinet at a recording appointment under the direction of Billy Usselton , with whom he played together in the band Les Browns .
