Keigo Abe

Keigo Abe ( Japanese 阿 部 圭 吾 Abe Keigo ; born October 28, 1938 in Iyo ; † December 21, 2019 ) was a Japanese karateka and holder of the 9th Dan .

Career

Keigo Abe began karate training in 1953 at the age of 15. In 1965 he became a JKA trainer. He was a student of Nakayama Masatoshi , who in turn was a student of Funakoshi Gichin , the founder of modern karate.

Abe was most recently holder of the 9th Dan in Shōtōkan Karate (second highest degree to be achieved) and head instructor of the Japan Shotokan Karate Association , a spin-off from the Japan Karate Association (JKA). He was the only Shotokan martial artist who officially before the current Tennō (Kaiser) of Japan Kata could perform. He was also the karate choreographer in charge of the James Bond film You Only Live Twice .
