Abraham Kiptum (born September 15, 1989 ) is a Kenyan long-distance runner . In October 2018 he set a world record in the half marathon that was later revoked .

Life

In April 2015, Kiptum finished third in his marathon debut in Rabat in 2:11:36 h. Then the Spanish athlete manager Juan Pineda spoke to him, who, according to his own statement, had noticed Kiptum's running style. After signing with Pineda at the end of 2015, Kiptum won the Lagos City Marathon (2:16:19 h) as well as half marathons in Madrid (1:01:52 h) and Casablanca (1:01 ) in the first half of 2016 : 26 h). In September he undercut the hour mark for the first time over the half marathon distance as sixth in the Copenhagen half marathon with a time of 59:36 minutes.

In 2017, Kiptum won again in Lagos . He then began to train with Joshua Kemei, the husband of Olympic medalist Eunice Kirwa , and finished third in the Amsterdam Marathon in October with a time of 2:05:26 .

At the beginning of April 2018, Kiptum won the Daegu Marathon with a new distance record (2:06:29 h) . In September he again increased his half marathon best time to 59:09 minutes in Copenhagen as runner-up. Six weeks later, on October 28th, Kiptum improved the previous world record of the Eritrean Zersenay Tadese at the Valencia Half Marathon with a victory time of 58:18 minutes . In a very fast race, in which ten runners stayed under 60 minutes, he ran the second 10-kilometer section with 27:16 minutes, significantly faster than the ten initial kilometers completed in 28:02 minutes, and finally missed five seconds under Tadeese's time the year 2010. He also set a world best with his split time of 20 kilometers (55:18 min).

In December 2018, Kiptum ran in 2:04:16 h in 2:04:16 h at the first edition of the Abu Dhabi Marathon.

In March 2019, Kiptum finished sixth in the Bahrain half marathon in 1:00:04 h. End of April, he was two days before his scheduled start in the London Marathon from the Athletics Integrity Unit (AIU) of the World Association of Athletics Federations IAAF because of irregularities in the biological passport provisionally suspended. In November the AIU decided that he would be banned for four years. In addition, all results were canceled from October 13, 2018, including the half marathon world record.
