Abraham Roth

Abraham Roth (born February 22, 1823 in Märstetten , † September 2, 1880 in Basel ) was a Swiss journalist and writer.

Life

Abraham Roth was born as the son of the pastor Johann David Roth in Märstetten. He studied philosophy, constitutional law and history at the University of Bonn and the University of Berlin . He obtained his doctorate in Bern . In 1842 he became a member of the Bonner Wingolf , in 1843 the Berlin Wingolf .

In 1847 he became editor of the Thurgauer Zeitung . In 1850 he was co-founder, publisher and until 1864 editor of the Swiss daily newspaper Der Bund . In 1865 Roth was the editor of the Sonntagspost and from 1869 to 1870 the editor of the Berner Tagespost . From 1871 until his death in 1880 he edited the newspaper Schweizer Grenzpost and Tagblatt der Stadt Basel .

In 1863 he was one of the founders of the Swiss Alpine Club and was the editor of the SAC yearbook. He is considered to be the first to climb the Doldenhorn on June 30, 1862.
