Abraham Schadäus

Abraham Schadäus ( German  Abraham Schade , Sorbian Abraham Škoda ; died October 10, 1626 in Finsterwalde , Niederlausitz ) was a Sorbian music teacher and editor of a compilation of motets .

Life

His year of birth is unknown. Abraham Schade grew up in Senftenberg in Lower Lusatia or in its vicinity. In 1564 he was a philology student at the University of Leipzig . In 1573 he became vice principal and teacher at the St. Thomas School there . In 1588 Abraham Schade was appointed cantor and teacher at the Princely School of St. Afra in Meißen . In 1592 he was released again because of alleged Calvinist attitudes.

He became a cantor at the grammar school in Bautzen (or director of the city school in Meißen?). In 1598 Schade became rector of Schneeberg in Saxony. In 1601 he was appointed vice rector and in 1602 rector of the Latin City School in Speyer . During this time he began to publish the Promptuarii musici . In 1612 he ended his activity in Speyer and was briefly cantor at the grammar school in Torgau . From 1613 he was vice rector, from 1614 rector in Bautzen. In 1617 he went into retirement.
