Achille Apolloni

Achille Apolloni (born November 15, 1812 in Anagni , † April 3, 1893 in Rome ) was a cardinal of the Roman Church .

Life

Achille Apolloni came from a patrician family in the Lazio , he was the son of Vincenzo Apolloni and his wife Luisa Giannuzzi.

First he studied at the Collegio Romano , from 1842 at the Accademia dei Nobili Ecclesiastici philosophy, theology and canon law. In 1847 he was awarded a doctorate in law ad honorem . He was ordained a priest on March 20, 1850. In 1851 he was included in the chapter of the Vatican Basilica and in 1853 was given the title of House Prelate of His Holiness . From 1854 he worked in various offices of the Roman Curia . On December 3, 1884 he became Vice-Camerlengo of the Roman Church.

Pope Leo XIII. created him cardinal on May 24, 1889 and appointed him cardinal deacon of San Cesareo in Palatio on May 27 of the same year .

He died of a heart failure in Rome and was buried on Campo Verano in the crypt of the canons of the Vatican Basilica.
