Achilles Eduard Carneghem van Weghen also: Achilles Eduard von Caneghem and also Achilles van Caneghem (* 1886 in Flanders , † 1981 in Celle ) was a Belgian-German engineer , businessman and entrepreneur as well as an inventor in the field of wind turbines .

Life

The baron , who was originally born in Belgium , settled in Celle in 1926 after the First World War .

During the period of the Weimar Republic , van Caneghem applied for a patent on July 6, 1932 under the title wind power plant with propellers and funnel-shaped wind tunnels arranged in front of them . In the USA , Caneghem also patented an invention of a motorcycle that was registered on February 8, 1936 and that could also be used as a watercraft .

At the time of National Socialism and during the Second World War , the nobleman ran a tattersall , a horse, cart and riding business in the buildings of the former leather factory on what would later be Biermannstrasse in Celle. In the building of the Celler Lederwerke by Fritz Wehl , which emerged from the Wehlschen Lederfabriken and from 1932 onwards the Hermann Kluge leather factory on Wittinger Strasse , the Tattersall was used temporarily for paramilitary training for the young German people "Fähnlein 2, Bann 77", as the contemporary witness Otto Brase opposite the Celleschen Zeitung explained.

In the 1950s Caneghem van Weghem also ran a small riding stable in the Vorwerk district of Celle . There, especially children could learn to ride or take the donkey named Lotte on the carriages for trips into the surrounding area.

Caneghem van Weghem was one of the founding members of the Green Party in Celle. In addition, he later applied for "several patents for wind power plants".
