Fritz Wehl

Fritz Wehl (born June 24, 1848 in Celle ; † August 24, 1925 there ) was a leather manufacturer and member of the German Reichstag .

Life

Wehl first attended the community school and later the grammar school and business school in Celle. He learned the tannery trade in four years of practical apprenticeship, went on a journey as a journeyman from 1867 to 1870 and worked during the same in various tanneries in Germany and Switzerland. He returned in March 1870, joined the 17th Westphalian Infantry Regiment as a one-year volunteer when mobilizing and took part in the war until the end. From 1875 to 1879 he was managing director of the important leather factory in Walsrode , in 1879 he associated himself with his stepfather and jointly founded the company August Wehl & Sohn , Celle. In 1901 he left the same and in 1903 founded the Celler Lederwerke with his son . As a result of inflation, the company was liquidated in 1929.

After several years as head of the city council, Fritz Wehl was elected Senator for the city of Celle in 1902. He was a member of the Hanover Chamber of Commerce since 1888, Chairman of the Supervisory Board of the Celler Schleppschiffahrt-Gesellschaft, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Celle-Bergen District Railway, as well as the Kleinbahn Celler-Wittingen A.-G. and member of the committee of the Reichsbank -Hauptstelle Hannover. Since 1888 he was a member of the Masonic Lodge Zum Hellleuchtenden Stern in Celle and from 1904 to 1925 the master of the chair of this lodge.

From May 1902 to 1903 and from 1907 to 1912 he was a member of the German Reichstag for the constituency of Hanover 14 ( Gifhorn , Celle , Peine , Burgdorf ) and the National Liberal Party .

Fritz Wehl was buried in the eastern part of the Hehlentorfriedhof ; the tombstone has been preserved there to this day (2013). The city of Celle honored its senator by naming Wehlstrasse .
