Achilles Huber

Achilles Huber (born February 9, 1776 in Sissach ; † July 7, 1860 in Basel , reformed , resident in Basel) was a Swiss architect .

Life

Achilles Huber was born on February 9, 1776 in Sissach as the son of pastor Johann Jakob Huber. Achilles Huber could have received his first lesson from Johann Ulrich Büchel in Basel. He then completed a four-year stonemason apprenticeship with foreman Niklaus Sprüngli in Bern . From 1798 to 1802 he worked for various architects in Zurich , Strasbourg and Karlsruhe . In Karlsruhe he was a student of Friedrich Weinbrenner , who had a decisive influence on him.

As a result, Huber, a member of the Spinnwetter guild since 1803 , ran his own construction business in Basel. His works include several private buildings, conversions, fountains and architectural drawings, including a design for a theater on St. Peter's Square in Basel from 1813.

Achilles Huber, who married Susanna Catharina, born in 1804, died on July 7, 1860 at the age of 84 in Basel.
