Achim Stößer

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Achim Stößer (born December 1963 in Durmersheim ) is a German author. He writes science fiction literature as well as specialist books on computer art and computer animation . As an activist of the animal rights movement and veganism , he has contributed to the animal rights discourse with articles and essays . He lives in Bad Orb .

Live and act

Achim Stößer studied computer science at the University of Karlsruhe with a diploma. He then worked as a research assistant in the field of computer graphics and computer animation at the Institute for Operating and Dialogue Systems at the University of Karlsruhe and had a teaching position at the State University of Design in Karlsruhe . From these two areas of activity, he worked on the textbook Photo-Realistic Computer Animation , published in 1991 .

Since 1988 he has published science fiction stories in anthologies and magazines, among others in the publishing house of the literary society Karlsruhe and in the fantastic anthology series by Wolfgang Jeschke . In the literary magazine Wandler he is described as a science fiction author who does not move in bestseller regions, but "explores the boundaries of the science fiction genre in an intelligent and ingenious way".

In 1998 he founded an animal rights initiative under the name Maqi - for animal rights, against speciesism, without association status and permanent members. Because of his theses such as “ Vegetarians are murderers too ”, he was called “ideologue of the animal rights movement” and “one of the most uncompromising vegans in Germany”. Zeit editor David Schmidt called him a "pioneer" who was partly responsible for the "verdict of the arrogant vegan", but "without radicals like Stößer [...] there would probably be no differentiation of the scene today" and it was "pioneers like Stößer [ …] Thanks to the fact that the concerns of vegans and animal rights activists could become popular ”.
