Achternholt is a place in the municipality of Wardenburg ( Lower Saxony ) and part of the former place Herbergen .

history

Achternholt is documentedly derived from the High German name “Hinter dem Holze”. This name refers to the extensive forests that existed around the place where hostels were located. Of this, the Oberlether Fuhrenkamp (Achternholter Wandereck) remained.

In 2000 there were 298 inhabitants in Achternholt. Achternholt is today agriculturally oriented.

Landmark

Achternholt's landmarks are the “currency oak” and the “Eurolinde”. These are two trees that were planted for the introduction of the currency, "Deutsche Mark" in 1948 and "Euro" in 2002.
