Agriculture altar

The Agriculture Altar or Altar of Agriculture (Xiannongtan 先农坛) is a historic site in Beijing's Xuanwu district and is located near the Temple of Heaven . It was built in the 15th century and was used during the Ming Dynasty and Qing Dynasty by the emperor to make sacrifices to the god of agriculture, who is said to have taught the people to plow.

The temple has been on the list of monuments of the People's Republic of China (5-202) since 2001 .
