Aconoidasida is a sub-taxon of the Apicomplexa .

description

Aconoidasida differ from the other apicomplexa in that the conoid is usually only formed in the ookinete ( zygote ) stage, but not in the other developmental stages. However, some diploid ookinetes deviate from it and form conoids. Macro gametes and micro gametes are formed independently of each other. Aconoidasida do not form cysts.

Way of life

Aconoidasida are blood parasites that have to pass through two hosts to complete their life cycle, first a vertebrate as intermediate host and then an arthropod as final host . Since they do not form cysts, you can only change their hosts in moist environments (e.g. in saliva).

Taxonomy and systematics

The taxon was first described in 1980 by Heinz Mehlhorn , Werner Peters and Axel Haberkorn , a synonym is Haematozoea, Vivier 1982. The name reflects the lack of a conoid.
