Action camcorders

An action camcorder consists of a wide-angle lens with a fixed focal length , an image sensor , an image processing unit , a microphone , a data storage medium and a voltage source , which is usually a rechargeable battery . The data rate for devices that support an image resolution of Full HD or, in some cases, even 4K , is up to 50 megabits per second (as of 2014).
Most action camcorders can also be used for photography. The sound quality is usually limited, but can be improved with an external microphone.

There are extensive accessories to attach action camcorders in a variety of ways with camera straps , adhesive , quick-release , suction or screw connections , such as on arms or legs, on items of clothing , on handlebars, on helmets or on booms .
Some devices are also provided with a small screen that can be used to operate the menu, align the camera or play back the recordings.
The cameras are usually splash-proof or waterproof to a depth of a few meters . Many providers offer suitable underwater housings for diving use . However, since operation can often only be carried out using a smartphone , it must also be designed to be robust enough for use.
Some devices have an image stabilizer or GPS .
An increasing number of devices are equipped with a WLAN module that enables wireless communication and control via remote control (on the wrist / with or without a screen) or with other digital devices such as smartphones , tablet PCs or notebooks .
