Adalbert Suchy

Adalbert Suchy ( Czech Vojtěch Suchý ) (* around 1783 in Klattau ; † August 25, 1849 in Vienna ) was a Bohemian miniature painter .

He began his drawing lessons with Jacob Matthias Schmutzer , studied from 1802 at the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna , where he was awarded the Gundel Prize in 1806 . After graduating, he worked in Vienna.

His earliest miniature (“Portrait of a French officer serving in the Austrian army”) dates from 1806. In addition to miniature portraits, he also created pastel pictures.

His works show the influence of Lorenz Grünbaum (1791 - after 1830), Josef Lanzedelly the Elder (1772–1831) and Bernhard von Guérard (1780–1836).

Adalbert Suchy portrayed Johann Strauss (father) and Adalbert Stifter , among others .

His daughter was the painter Maria Antonia Suchy .
