Adam Boniecki (theologian)
Adam Edward Fredro-Boniecki (born July 25, 1934 in Warsaw , Poland ) is a Polish theologian, priest and journalist.
Life
Boniecki entered the Marian Order at the age of 18 . In 1960 he completed a degree in theology and philosophy at the Great Spiritual Seminary in Włocławek . He was then ordained a priest by Bishop Antoni Pawłowski . He continued his studies at the Catholic University in Lublin and the Catholic Institute in Paris . He then worked as a religion teacher in Grudziądz . From 1979 Boniecki worked on the Polish edition of the Vatican newspaper L'Osservatore Romano , of which he remained editor until 1991. He was then elected Superior General of the Marians for the term of office between 1993 and 1999. In the following years he was editor of the Polish Krakow magazine Tygodnik Powszechny .
Boniecki is considered to be a critical Catholic intellectual. Because of his unorthodox statements, Boniecki was forced by the Provincial of the Mariana Order, Paweł Naumowicz, to give up the editing of Tygodnik Powszechny and move to Warsaw. In November 2011 Boniecki was additionally punished with a total ban on testifying (with the exception of articles in the Tygodnik Powszechny). After about six years, on July 29, 2017, the ban was withdrawn. On November 14, 2017, Adam Boniecki (together with Auxiliary Bishop Tadeusz Pieronek ) gave a funeral speech at the funeral of Piotr Szczęsny in the Salwator Cemetery in Krakow . As early as November 17th, the ban was imposed again.
His brother Tadeusz Fredro-Boniecki is also a publicist.
