Adam Najem (born January 19, 1995 in Wayne, New Jersey ) is an American - Afghan soccer player who has been under contract with the Polish second division club Wigry Suwałki since 2020 .
Career
Club career
Najem began his career in 2006 with the New York Red Bulls youth team . Between 2013 and 2016 he played for his college team, the University of Akron , where he scored 33 goals and 29 assists in 89 games . During this time he also played for the Michigan Bucks , with which he won the PDL Championship in 2016.
In February 2017, the midfielder signed with MLS club Philadelphia Union after the club acquired the rights to the New York Red Bulls in exchange for a second-round pick in the 2018 MLS SuperDraft . He made his debut on April 1, 2017 with the Philadelphia farm team , Bethlehem Steel , in a 3-2 loss to the Rochester Rhinos . After five games for Philadelphia Union and 37 games for Bethlehem Steel, his contract expired at the end of the 2018 season.
For the 2019 season, the midfielder moved to the newly founded franchise Memphis 901 FC . But just a year later he moved on to the Polish second division club Wigry Suwałki .
National team
In August 2018 Adam and his brother David Najem were nominated for the first time for the Afghan national team for the game against Palestine , but unlike his brother, who was unable to play due to an injury, Adam made his debut in the 0-0 draw on August 19, 2018 .

Najem was born to an Afghan father and a Belarusian mother in Wayne , New Jersey , and grew up with his brother David in Clifton . His cousin Benjamin Nadjem also plays in the Afghan national team.
