Adam van Dommele (born September 5, 1984 in Elizabeth ) is an Australian football player .

Career

Van Dommele received football training from the South Australian Sports Institute from 1999 to 2001 and took part in the U-17 World Cup in Trinidad and Tobago in 2001 with the Australian U-17 team. He was on the side of the later senior international Carl Valeri , Brett Holman and Spase Dilevski in all four tournament games when they advanced to the quarter-finals after victories in the preliminary round against the hosts and Croatia, where Nigeria retained the upper hand with 5-1. The following year, he began his adult football career with the Modbury Jets , who had their game operations in the South Australian Premier League , the top division of the state of South Australia . In the summer of 2003, the defender went to England for trial training and played at Oxford United and Hartlepool United , among others . Third division Hartlepool finally offered him a short-term contract until the end of September in August, which was extended for another month after a leg injury. Van Dommele came to appearances for the youth and reserve team of the club in these three months, but could not recommend himself for a longer-term contract and returned to Australia.

There he continued his career with the Enfield City Falcons in the South Australian State League . After creating a national professional game class, the A-League , he accepted an offer from Adelaide United for the inaugural 2005/06 season . In his first professional season in Australia he was one of the club's regulars and finished first with the team at the end of the regular season ; in the subsequent championship play-offs they missed the finals after losing to Sydney FC and the Central Coast Mariners . At the end of the season, he was honored internally with the Rising Star Award as the best young player. Although the squad remained largely unchanged for the following season, van Dommele was rarely part of the squad in his second season at Adelaide under coach John Kosmina and only made five league appearances; in the play-offs, when the team advanced to the final, he remained without commitment and was not part of the squad in the final. In February 2007 Aurelio Vidmar took over the coaching position and initiated a change. Although he made three appearances in the group stage of the AFC Champions League 2007 , he, like his two defensive colleagues Kristian Rees and Aaron Goulding , did not receive a new contract in the summer of 2007 because, in the opinion of the club officials, they would be too slow for the future League.

Van Dommele then joined South Melbourne FC in the Victorian Premier League , for which he played until 2008. For the 2009 season he moved to the North Eastern MetroStars and thus returned to South Australia. With the club he won the championship of the South Australian Super League in 2009 and 2012 , and the association cup in 2012.
