Jose Rene D. Almendras (born March 12, 1960 in Cebu City ) is a Filipino manager and politician .

Life

After attending school, he studied economics at the Ateneo de Manila University , where he earned a Bachelor of Arts (BA Business Management). He then completed a postgraduate degree in Strategic Business Programs at the University of Asia and the Pacific .

He then entered the private sector and was, among other things, bank manager at Citytrust Banking Corporation , Citibank and the Bank of the Philippine Islands . He then worked for Aboitiz & Company as Chief Financial Officer as well as President and CEO of City Savings Bank, part of the Aboitiz Group .

He then moved to Ayala Corporation , where he was initially a board member of Ayala Land Inc. and its group director for the Visayas and Mindanao business group and the operation transformation group. He was also President and CEO of Ayala Land Inc.'s Cebu Holdings, Inc., and of the Cebu Property Ventures and Development Group . He was also the chairman of the bid committee and head of the strategic procurement department of the Ayala Land Group. Most recently he was Managing Director (Managing Director) of the Ayala Corporation.

On January 1, 2007, Almendras also became Group Director of Economics for the Manila Water Company . As the head of the largest group in the company, he made a significant contribution by introducing new processes to improve the company's productivity and effectiveness. Most recently, he was President of the Manila Water Company from March 30, 2009 to June 30, 2010.

After the elections in the Philippines in 2010 , Jose Rene Almendras was elected on June 30, 2010 by President Benigno Aquino III. appointed Secretary of Energy in his cabinet . He held this office until November 4, 2012 and was then replaced by Jericho Petilla . He himself took over the office of Cabinet Secretary from Silvestre Bello III on November 5, 2012 and held this position until he was replaced by Leoncio Evasco Jr. on March 8, 2016. He then replaced Albert del Rosario as Acting Secretary of Foreign Affairs on March 8, 2016 , and held this post until the end of Aquino's term on June 30, 2016.
