Addison is a city in New England in Washington County in the state of Maine of the United States , after the English writer Joseph Addison from the 18th century is named, was established on February 14 1797th Before it was founded, it was known as Plantation Number Six west of Machias . At the confluence of the Pleasant River and its western arm, the city extends south on a peninsula, the western part of which includes Cape Split in southern Addison.
Geography and population
According to the United States Census Bureau from 2010, there were 1,266 people consisting of 359 families in 529 households in the city of Maine. The city has a total area of 260.22 km², of which 190.92 km² consists of land and 160.30 km of water.

Recreational opportunities
Two nature reserves are managed by the conservation organization The Nature Conservancy . The ten acres of East Plummer Island are densely forested and home to bald eagles . The Inland Fisheries and Wildlife Department closes them for nesting in early summer. Other recreational options in Maine include hiking trails, beaches, islands, and parks.
