Beals is a town on Beals Island in Washington County , in the US state of Maine in the United States . According to the 2010 census, it had a population of 508 with a population density of 34.6 people per km². The village was incorporated in 1925 as part of the city of Jonesport . Beals can be reached via the Jonesport-Beals Bridge .

Traditionally known for fishing and lobster fishing, Beals made a name for himself in state basketball competitions through Jonesport-Beals High School . The name Beals comes from the legendary fisherman Long (Tall) Barney Beal (1835-1899).

Beals, like Jonesport, are part of the Great Wass Archipelago nature reserve , which is managed by the environmental organization The Nature Conservancy . The area has more than 43 islands and an area of ​​11.3 km².
