Adel Massaad

Adel Massaad (born June 24, 1964 in Moers ) is a professional table tennis player and runs the Institute for Health Education (IFGA) he founded . The German - Egyptian son of a doctor comes from Geldern on the Lower Rhine.

Massaad left grammar school in Geldern without a high school diploma and became a table tennis professional. Originally brought in for the lower pair cross (teams of six), he soon developed into the surprise of the Bundesliga and became a strong player in the middle pair cross. His trademark were the patchwork after his victories. In 1985 he moved from the TuS Rheinberg association to TTC Jülich , and in 1988 to FTG Frankfurt . A year later he returned to Jülich, which he left again in 1995 for Post SV Telekom Mülheim . In 1989 Massaad came second in the DTTB-TOP-12 ranking tournament , and a year later he came third in the German championship in singles.

After a stint in 1992/93 at TTC Helga Hannover he won the 1993 together with the TTC Jülich ETTU Cup as single player in 1990 in Casablanca , the African Cup of Nations . With the Egyptian team, he finished second at this tournament. He took part in world championships four times with Egypt . In 2007 he qualified to participate in the 2008 Summer Olympics .

He moved from TTC Jülich to Post SV Telekom Mülheim (until 1996). He then played for various clubs (Helga Hannover (1996), TTC BW Bergneustadt (1997), PSV Oberhausen (1998), Post SV Hagen (1999), SV Menzelen, TSV Krefeld-Bockum) in the lower divisions. For the 2006/07 season he returned to Jülich, where he is registered as a top player in the 2nd men's team for the state league, but also played in the Bundesliga. Since the 2011/2012 season, Massaad has been playing for the upper division ASV Einigkeit Süchteln.

criticism

Massaad is said to have campaigned against drug critics for money. According to Der Spiegel on February 7, 2011, Massaad and a business partner tried to discredit the independent drug tester Peter Sawicki , then head of the Institute for Quality and Efficiency in Health Care . For his work, Massaad is said to have received more than 1.2 million euros from pharmaceutical companies and PR agencies.

Private

Massaad's father is Egyptian and his mother is Algerian. That is why he is also eligible to play for Egypt. For a long time he also played volleyball for TV Geldern, and as a teenager he was part of the squad of the German Volleyball Association.
