TTC Helga Hanover
The TTC Helga Hannover is a table tennis club from Hannover-Ricklingen . Its men's team played in the Bundesliga in the 1990s .
Foundation and namesake
The association was founded in February 1947. It is one of the oldest table tennis clubs in Germany (the oldest is the Kiel TTK Grün-Weiß , which has existed since 1925). It is named after the first female member Helga Engelke († February 1, 2014 at the age of 88), who was German vice-champion in doubles with Ilse Lantermann in 1957 .
Professional team
Under manager Uwe Rehbein and trainer Fred Schwenke, the men's team qualified in 1988 for the newly established Second Bundesliga. In 1992 he was promoted to the first Bundesliga. With the players Adel Massaad , Andrei Masunow , Berthold Pilsl and Mirko Pawlowski they reached eighth place. After another eighth place in the following season, relegation could not be avoided in 1994/95 with the penultimate 11th place. 1997 succeeded in rising again with Song Shanhua, Adel Massaad, Elger Neumann, Pasi Valasti, Aki Kontala, Markus Lietzau and Patrick Günther. With 10th place the team had to compete in the play-down round, in which they were relegated last. The team was then withdrawn to the regional league. In 2000 she was promoted back to the Second Bundesliga North and was instantly champion with the line-up of Zhao Kan, Thomas Schröder , Pasi Valasti, Song Shenhua, Patrick Günther, Aki Kontala and Florian Buch. For financial reasons, the club waived promotion, dissolved the team and entered the district league with an amateur team.
