Ilse Lantermann

Ilse Lantermann (born August 16, 1935 in Berlin ; † February 6, 2018 in Golmbach ) was a German table tennis player . She was world champion in senior doubles.

Career

Ilse Lantermann started playing table tennis at the age of 17. In 1951 she joined the TTC Harsum association. Via the stations TTC Isny ​​(1953) and TK Hanover (1955) she came to ASC Göttingen (formerly Hellas and SSC Göttingen) in 1958, where she played until her death.

Adults

In the 1960s Lantermann was one of the best German players. At the international championships of the ČSSR in Prague, she was the first German to defeat the Englishwoman Diane Rowe . Once she was called up to the national team. She won in London in 1962 in an international match against England against Diane Rowe and Lesley Bell . Her greatest success was third place in doubles with Oda Mielenhausen at the 1962 European Championships in West Berlin.

At the national German championships she was second in doubles in 1957 (with Helga Engelke) and second in singles behind Inge Müser in 1960 . In the national ranking tournament TOP-12 she reached second place behind Agnes Simon , who was tied on points, in 1961/62 , although she had won against her. In the same year she won with the team from Lower Saxony Germany Cup .

Lantermann won a total of 15 titles at the state championships in Lower Saxony. From 1962 to 1964 she won the individual competition three times in a row.

In 1962, she was ranked fourth in Germany.

Seniors

Lantermann took part in numerous senior competitions. She won many titles in doubles with Waltraud Zehne. Her greatest success was winning the world championship in doubles over 60 in 1998. At the European championships for senior citizens she won gold in doubles in 1995 and 1999 (over 60) and 2001 (over 65).

Honors

In 2003, the Lower Saxony table tennis association awarded Ilse Lantermann and Waltraud Zehne the badge of honor.

Private

Ilse Lantermann was a chemical technician by profession. From 1964 she worked as a perfumer in Holzminden. She lived in Golmbach .
