Holy Cross Church

The Holy Cross Church was the Catholic Church in Luthe , City of Wunstorf , in the Hannover deanery of the Hildesheim diocese . The former branch church of St. Bonifatius , Wunstorf, was built in 1971 as a simple hall building with a high pitched roof and a free-standing bell tower in prefabricated construction. It was located at Parkstrasse 11, around 45 meters above sea level . Their benediction took place on May 29, 1971 . The artistic and liturgical furnishings date from the 1970s and were created with a considerable financial contribution from the parishioners.

A number of other churches of this type were built in the Diocese of Hildesheim, for example in 1969 in Altenwalde and Sudmerberg , 1970 in Dungelbeck , Meckelfeld and Poggenhagen , 1971 in Afferde , Hohegeiß , Meine , Schwanewede and Winsen (Aller) , 1972 in Gifhorn , Ronnenberg , Stederdorf and Wittingen , 1974 in Vorwerk , 1975 in Dransfeld , Münchehof and Rodenberg , and 1976 in Rhüden .

The Holy Cross Church is one of the 80 churches that will be closed for reasons of personnel and costs according to the plan of the Diocese of Hildesheim that came into force in September 2009 .

The profanation service was led on May 8, 2010 by Vicar General Werner Schreer . Since no possibility of conversion was found, the church was demolished in summer 2012. In autumn 2014 the bells got a new place in the tower of the Wunstorf St. Bonifatius Church. The inventory of the church is to be transferred to the Mostar diocese in Bosnia-Herzegovina .

Today St. Bonifatius in Wunstorf, about three kilometers away, is the closest Catholic church.
