Peter Franz (table tennis player)
Peter Franz (born April 25, 1971 in Stolzenau ) is a German table tennis player . He is five times German champion in doubles.
youth
Left-handed Peter Franz achieved many successes in his youth. In 1985 he won the national ranking tournament TOP-12 for students. In the same year he became German student champion in singles and mixed (with Nicole Struse ), with Ingo Haumer he was runner-up in doubles.
In 1987 he won the international German championship in Willstätt. In the youth ranking tournament TOP-12 he came second, a year later first. In 1988 he won the title at the German youth championships in singles and in mixed (with Markus Teichert ).
In 1988 Peter Franz took part in the European Youth Championship in Novi Sad. Together with Oliver Alke , he won silver in doubles.
Adults
At the National German Championships , Peter Franz won the title five times: in 1992, 1995, 2000 and 2001 with Torben Wosik , in 1997 with Jörg Roßkopf . In the individual, he was runner-up four times (1996, 1997, 1999, 2000).
He played a key role in winning the German team championship in 1991 with TTC Zugbrücke Grenzau and in 1997 and 2000 with TTF Liebherr Ochsenhausen .
Since 1989 he has played 114 international matches. Between 1989 and 2001 he took part in all eight world championships . His best placement was bronze in 1993 with the team and in 1995 the round of 16 in the individual. Of his participation in all seven European championships between 1988 and 2000, 2000 silver with the team was his greatest success.
He was at the Olympic Games in 1996 and 2000 . In 2001/02 Franz played at the Super Circuit tournaments in Japan and during stays in Germany for the TTC Frickenhausen team . He has been with the French club AS Pontoise-Cergy TT since 2004 , where he has been a coach since 2012.
