The left-hander Oliver Alke began his career as a child at Bramfelder TTV , where his father Günther played in the first men's team. As a teenager he switched to Germania Schnelsen . At the age of 16, he was promoted to the table tennis league with the Schnelsen team in 1987 . At the beginning of 1988 - still as a youth player - he became the Hamburg men's individual champion for the first time by beating his teammate Jens Stolte . In the same year he represented Germany at the European table tennis championships for young people and was able to win the silver medal in the boys' doubles with Peter Franz . In 1988 he moved to the top German club TTC Zugbrücke Grenzau , after having previously become German individual junior champion (up to 21 years of age). In the following year he was able to defend this title.

In March 1989 Alke was invited to the national team for the first time and was used in the 1: 6 defeat in the European league game against Poland. In the national ranking tournament of the men he won in 1993 and 1994 ranked 4th in 1993 he won the Bulgarian Open and won with the German national team in the same year the bronze medal at the World Table Tennis Championships in Gothenburg . In 1994 he was German runner-up in the men's doubles and was able to win the German team championship with the Grenzauer. Alke later played for Spvg Steinhagen (1989/90), TTC Jülich (1990/91), again for TTC Zugbrücke Grenzau (from 1991), then Team Galaxis Lübeck (1995–1997) and Eintracht Fallingbostel (1997–2000), before he moved to Hamburger SV in 2000 . After a long hiatus, he made people sit up and take notice once again in 2003 when he won the German runner-up in mixed doubles. Since 2007 Alke has been playing for table tennis friends Bergedorf, Vier- and Marschlande in the Oberliga Nord . In 2008 he was again North German champion in singles and doubles.
