Michael Kümmerle (born April 21, 1979 in Leonberg ) is a former German soccer player. The defensive specialist made a total of 75 second division appearances between 1998 and 2004.
career
Kümmerle began with the soccer game in the Leonberger area at TSV Weissach and then moved to TSV Eltingen . In 1997 he joined the youth department of the Stuttgarter Kickers . There he moved up after missions on the amateur team in the professional squad and came on August 21, 1998 for his first short assignment as a professional when he came on in the 90th minute for Mourad Bounoua . It was almost a year before his next league appearance in the 2nd Bundesliga . At the beginning of the 1999/2000 season, Kümmerle was on the starting line-up on matchday 1 and was one of the regular midfielders of the Stuttgarter Kickers for the entire season alongside Adnan Kevrić and Cássio Alves de Barros . At the end of the season, Kümmerle had played 29 games and scored two goals. Nevertheless, the Stuttgart club only finished fourth from bottom and would have actually been relegated. Only through the withdrawal of the license for Tennis Borussia Berlin one remained in German professional football.
The achievements of Kümmerle did not go unnoticed by Hannes Löhr , the coach of the German U21 national team ; between February and May 2000 he was used in a total of three U21 games and also scored a goal in the 3-0 win over Switzerland.
Kümmerle, who was mainly used on the left at Kickers, also made 29 appearances (3 goals) in the 2000/01 season . As in the previous season, the club was in a relegation battle, ultimately they rose six points behind a non-relegation place as penultimate in the regional league south. Kümmerle then left the club and moved to the Ronhof for SpVgg Greuther Fürth .
In Fürth, Kümmerle did not make a breakthrough in three years. When Uwe Erkenbrecher brought in the man, he was soon replaced by Eugen Hach , who relied on other players. Two serious injuries (torn muscle bundle and torn cruciate ligament on the left) contributed to the fact that he only played for the Franconian club after two years, in May 2003, on the last match day of the season . A change to one of the interested regional league clubs TSG Hoffenheim and 1. FC Saarbrücken at the end of the season failed because of Fürth's transfer request. Also in the 2003/04 season Kümmerle was only in the extended circle, ultimately he came to 15 missions. On the 29th matchday of the season, Kümmerle suffered a tear in his right cruciate ligament in the game against 1. FSV Mainz and was again out for half a year. Despite the serious injury, Kümmerle, whose contract with Fürth expired at the end of the season, moved to the regional league team Hoffenheim free of charge.
Kümmerle made his comeback at Hoffenheim in March 2005. In the first half of the 2005/06 season, Kümmerle held a regular place at TSG under coach Hansi Flick (until November 2005) and interim coach Roland Dickgießer (November to December 2005). He lost this when the club made some new signings during the winter break and hired a new coach in Lorenz-Günther Köstner in order to achieve the desired promotion to the 2nd Bundesliga. Hoffenheim clearly missed promotion and Kümmerle's contract expired at the end of the season. With Kickers Emden he found a new club that played in the Regionalliga Nord .
After only six months in Emden, Kümmerle asked to terminate his contract for " sporting and private reasons " and moved back to the Regionalliga Süd for KSV Hessen Kassel . Then Kümmerle played a year in Cyprus with Atromitos Yeroskipou and in July 2009 he moved to the regional league team SpVgg Weiden after the club's relegation from the Cypriot First Division . In the 2010/11 season he was active for the Baden-Württemberg upper division VfL Kirchheim / Teck . Since December 2013 he has been playing for the Middle Franconian regional league club TSV Burgfarrnbach , with whom he was promoted to the regional league in 2015 and then ended his career as an active player. For the 2016/17 season he was reactivated for two more league games.
